In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 14, 2018, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, the life of Bradford Louis, a 27-year-old African American man, was tragically cut short. The incident that led to his untimely death began with a dispute inside a local bar, which then spilled out onto High School Street. It was there, around 2:00 a.m., that Louis was shot.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but the gunshot wound proved to be fatal.
The investigation into the murder of Bradford Louis led to the identification of several individuals believed to be involved. The Plaquemine Police Department moved swiftly, and within days, arrests were made. One of the first to be taken into custody was 24-year-old Jerry Henderson of Plaquemine, who was charged with principal to second-degree murder for his role in the crime. Authorities also sought another man, 26-year-old Dexter Renard Young, also from Plaquemine, who was wanted for second-degree murder.
Further investigation into the complex case revealed additional suspects. Tyler Davis was identified as a primary suspect and was ultimately charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. Before his capture, Davis, who had connections to the Lafayette area, was considered dangerous and was on the run from law enforcement. The investigation also implicated two other men, 18-year-old Sterling Powell from Sunset and 23-year-old Devonte Johnson from Brusly. Both Powell and Johnson faced charges of principal to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. The arrests brought a measure of relief to a community shaken by the violence and to a grieving family seeking justice for the loss of their loved one.
