In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 27, 2023, the life of 42-year-old Sherman McElroy was cut short in a fatal shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The incident occurred around 9:09 a.m. in the 3000 block of Monte Sano Avenue, where McElroy was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, found next to his car.
For more than two months, the circumstances surrounding McElroy's death remained a mystery to the public, with authorities initially
stating that the motive and suspect were unknown. Homicide detectives with the Baton Rouge Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward as they pieced together the events of that Sunday morning.
The investigation took a significant turn on a Tuesday in early November when police arrested 37-year-old Lacey Trumble in connection with the murder. Witnesses reported seeing a woman, later identified as Trumble, in the car with McElroy moments before the gunshots rang out. Following the shooting, the same woman was seen fleeing the vehicle. An examination of McElroy's phone records revealed he was on a call shortly before his death, and a person named Lacey was heard speaking during the conversation. Further investigation uncovered threatening messages sent from Trumble to McElroy, including one that read, 'Something bad going to happen hopefully you that Sherman McElroy you not going to f**k with nobody else in life I love you too f**king much so you leave someone like us haha have to Dieeeeee.'
