In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday evening in Baton Rouge, a young life was cut short. Keyandre Gilmore, a 22-year-old male, was fatally wounded in what investigators believe was an accidental shooting. The incident occurred around 7:00 pm on Coursey Boulevard.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Detectives who responded to the scene, Gilmore was reportedly showing a firearm to a teenager. While the juvenile was handling the weapon, it discharged, striking Gilmore.
He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries on February 20, 2021.
Following an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting, the juvenile involved was taken into custody. The teenager was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center. The charge filed against the juvenile was negligent homicide.
Key'Andre Terrell Gilmore, as he was also known, was a native of St. Francisville, Louisiana. His death left behind a grieving family, including his parents, siblings, and a fiancée. A memorial service was held to honor his memory at the St. Andrew Baptist Church in St. Francisville.
