In the afternoon of December 2, 2020, a shooting unfolded in Baton Rouge that claimed the life of 23-year-old Brandon Childs. The incident, which occurred around 3:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of Dougherty Drive, also left a male teenager with critical injuries. Both Childs and the juvenile were transported to a local hospital with apparent gunshot wounds, but Childs ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led Baton Rouge Police Detectives to identify a
suspect. On March 8, 2021, with the assistance of the Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force, authorities arrested 23-year-old Renwick Jordan of Zachary, Louisiana. Investigators believe Jordan was connected to the death of Brandon Childs and the injuring of the teenage victim, whose injuries were later described as non-life-threatening.
Following his arrest, Renwick Jordan was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faced charges of First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, and Illegal use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities. The investigation into the incident remained ongoing.
