In the early morning hours of October 10, 2024, a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, claimed the life of 32-year-old Daryl Hamilton. The incident, which also left another man with non-life-threatening injuries, occurred around 12:52 a.m. in the 200 block of E. Buchanan Street. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, but Hamilton ultimately succumbed to his gunshot wounds.
Initial investigations by the Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives were unable to
immediately identify a suspect or a motive for the shooting. However, their efforts later led to the arrest of 21-year-old Nolen Daniels. Daniels was already incarcerated on an unrelated charge at the time of his arrest in connection with Hamilton's death.
Authorities charged Daniels with first-degree murder for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Daryl Hamilton and attempted first-degree murder for the injuries sustained by the second victim. Daniels had a prior criminal history that included charges of aggravated escape, obstruction, and multiple counts related to illegal possession of stolen firearms and machine guns.
