In the late morning of December 3, 2022, the body of 38-year-old Duquares Smith, a Black male, was discovered in the 2300 block of Sherwood Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Authorities from the Baton Rouge Police Department responded to the scene around 11:13 a.m. and found that Smith had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Homicide detectives were called in to lead the investigation into the shooting death of the Baton Rouge man.
In the immediate aftermath of the discovery, law enforcement officials stated that the motive for the shooting was unknown, and they had not identified any suspects.
The case remains an active homicide investigation. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the Violent Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers in an effort to generate leads in the ongoing investigation. To date, there have been no publicly announced arrests or naming of any suspects in connection with the death of Duquares Smith.
