On a late Friday evening in Shreveport, Louisiana, the life of 29-year-old Demetrius Markeith Owens, a male resident of nearby Rodessa, was tragically cut short. On September 8, 2023, just after 10:35 p.m., Owens was attempting to enter an apartment in the 9100 block of Walker Road when he was shot multiple times by another man at the apartment.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Owens was quickly transported to Ochsner LSU Health hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his wounds at 11:14 p.m. The Caddo Parish Coroner's office later positively identified him through fingerprint comparison. An autopsy was authorized to be a part of the official investigation into his death. This violent incident marked the 58th homicide within the Shreveport city limits and the 62nd in Caddo Parish for that year.
