On November 19, 2023, Layla Arshan McCray-Scott, a 17-year-old senior at Hahnville High School, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in New Orleans, Louisiana. The incident occurred at the corner of Esplanade and North Claiborne, near a gas station in the Tremé area, where Layla and her friends had gathered to watch a Ninth Ward second-line brass band perform.
