On November 22, 2023, 30-year-old African American man Kenneth “KJ” Johnson was fatally shot near the Plantation Inn Motel on the Northeast Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette, Louisiana. The incident occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. Johnson, a father and truck driver from St. Martinville, was transported to a local hospital by private vehicle, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
