A night out with a coworker turned deadly for 39-year-old Marvin Reed in Houma, Louisiana. On January 6, 2024, Reed, a Black male from Eight Mile, Alabama, was at the Thirsty Thirty Sports Bar on Barataria Avenue. An evening of socializing took a dark turn when a physical altercation erupted between Reed and his coworker and acquaintance, 39-year-old Christopher Boutwell of Theodore, Alabama.
