A night out with a coworker turned deadly for 39-year-old Marvin Reed in Houma, Louisiana. On January 6, 2024, Reed, a Black male from Eight Mile, Alabama, was at the Thirsty Thirty Sports Bar on Barataria Avenue. An evening of socializing took a dark turn when a physical altercation erupted between Reed and his coworker and acquaintance, 39-year-old Christopher Boutwell of Theodore, Alabama.
The argument escalated tragically when Boutwell walked to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and
returned to the bar. He then shot Marvin Reed multiple times. Reed succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Houma Police Department was dispatched to the location at approximately 1:30 AM.
Following the shooting, Christopher Boutwell fled the scene. However, his attempt to evade capture was short-lived. Patrolling officers located and apprehended him shortly after the incident. Boutwell was taken into custody without further incident and was subsequently arrested.
The investigation led to Christopher Boutwell being charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Marvin Reed. Reed, a father to a son and daughter, was remembered by his family as a loving parent. He and Boutwell were not only coworkers but were also described as having been friends for a long time before the fatal encounter.
