In the afternoon hours of a Tuesday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a burst of violence cut short the life of a beloved father and grandfather. On March 19, 2024, 61-year-old Dwain Fleming was shot and killed in the 100 block of South 18th Street. The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m., and when Baton Rouge Police responded to the call, they discovered Fleming at the scene. He had already succumbed to his injuries. His death marked the 26th homicide in the city that year.
Known to friends and family as a good father, brother, uncle, and friend, Fleming was a self-employed mechanic who left behind two sons and several grandchildren.
For months, the investigation into Fleming's death continued without a named suspect. Warner was taken into custody and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faces charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. It was revealed that Warner had a significant criminal history, with prior arrests for serious offenses including second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon, and felon in possession of a firearm.
