On a Friday afternoon in New Orleans, 64-year-old Reginald William Thompson, known to his loved ones as 'Puff,' was in his beloved 7th Ward neighborhood. He had an appointment with his attorney on March 22, 2024, and afterward, stopped at the corner of North Roman Street and AP Tureaud Avenue to chat with some friends. What began as a casual conversation quickly turned into a scene of violence when gunfire suddenly erupted.
In the midst of the chaos, four men were struck by bullets. Reginald Thompson was fatally wounded and died at the scene. Another man, Farrell Davis, Jr., succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. Two other men were also injured in the shooting. Family members shared that Reginald, a retired carpenter, was a loving husband, father of three, and grandfather to seven. He was a lifelong resident of the 7th Ward and a graduate of John McDonogh Senior High School.
The New Orleans Police Department is actively investigating the quadruple shooting. A white truck believed to have been used by the assailants was later found abandoned in the 8th Ward. However, authorities have not yet identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murders. The motive for the shooting remains unclear as the investigation continues.
