In the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the life of 48-year-old Craig Declouiet, a male resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. Responding to a welfare check at an apartment complex on 18th Street, Lake Charles Police officers discovered Declouiet lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Remembered as a loving father, fiancé, and son, Craig was a graduate of
Lake Charles Boston High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He was known in his community as a landscaper and a substitute teacher. His sudden and violent death left his family and friends mourning the loss of a man described as always willing to help others.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify two suspects. On Friday, April 26, 2024, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic stop and took 21-year-old Kylon Tre Rogers and 23-year-old Trevon Anthony Breaux, both of Lake Charles, into custody without incident. The confrontation that led to the fatal shooting is still under investigation.
Both Rogers and Breaux have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Craig Declouiet. A judge set their bonds at $1,500,000 each. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have asked that anyone with additional information come forward.
