On August 12, 2008, Jermaine Wesley was found suffering from gunshot wounds in Birmingham, Alabama, near the 7600 block of 5th Avenue South by London Avenue in the East Lake area. He was a 24-year-old Black man.

Police were alerted after the city’s gunshot-detection system registered gunfire in the area, drawing officers to the location. Wesley was located alive but gravely injured, and officers rushed him to UAB Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he died there from his wounds.
