On the evening of July 7, 2020, 62-year-old Amin Poonawalla, a resident of Hoover, Alabama, was fatally shot outside his business, the Ensley Food Mart, located on Avenue E in Birmingham. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. as Poonawalla was reportedly locking up the store for the night.
