In the early morning hours of April 27, 2024, the life of 23-year-old Daon M. Scott was cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Authorities discovered Scott's body around 3:15 a.m. near BREC's Longfellow Park on Longfellow Drive. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The initial investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department did not immediately identify a motive or any suspects.
The case saw a significant development on May 1, 2024, when two
16-year-old male suspects were taken into custody with the assistance of the Baton Rouge Constable's Office. Both teenagers were booked into the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. The investigation suggested that the shooting was part of a series of retaliatory acts of violence that had occurred in the area.
Later that month, on May 21, 2024, a third suspect was arrested in connection with Scott's death. Taylor Nelson, 21, was taken into custody by Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives for her alleged involvement in the incident. Nelson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of principal to second-degree murder.
