In the late summer of 2019, a violent encounter in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to the death of Melvin Smith. On August 27, 2019, the 36-year-old male was shot in the ankle at a residence on Bard Avenue. In the weeks that followed, Smith was recovering from the gunshot wound, but his condition took a turn for the worse due to unforeseen complications.
