On May 15, 2024, 38-year-old African American woman Ashley Nicole Thomas was fatally shot in Boutte, Louisiana. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance call just before 1:00 a.m. near Old Spanish Trail and Billings Lane, where a witness reported hearing glass shattering and gunshots.
