In the early morning hours of a Tuesday in Lafayette, Louisiana, a senseless act of violence claimed the life of 70-year-old Stanford David Mouton. On May 21, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Mouton was asleep in his bed inside his home on Macklyn Street when a stray bullet pierced through his residence, striking and fatally wounding him. He was a male. The tragic incident was a result of a shooting that occurred nearby, making Mouton an innocent victim caught in the crossfire.
The Lafayette Police Department swiftly launched a homicide investigation. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of a suspect the following day. Leonce Boutte IV, a 27-year-old resident of Lafayette, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. Investigators determined that Boutte was allegedly involved in another incident in the same area and had discharged a firearm. One of those bullets entered Mouton's home, leading to the tragic outcome.
Following his arrest, Leonce Boutte IV was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. He faces serious charges, including one count of second-degree murder for the death of Stanford Mouton. Additionally, he has been charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder related to the other individuals involved in the initial incident.
