On the late evening of June 14, 2024, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, the life of 22-year-old Trevon Dunn, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. At approximately 10:50 p.m., deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to St. Patrick Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Dunn, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Another man was also injured in the incident but was able to transport himself to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Trevon, known affectionately to friends and family as "RockOut" and "Baby Boy," was a 2020 graduate of Donaldsonville High School where he had been a notable athlete. Remembered for a smile that could light up a room, his sudden death left a significant void in the community. The investigation into the shooting continued for months, with law enforcement actively seeking those responsible for the violence that night.
By November 2024, the investigation led to significant developments. The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of five individuals in connection with the shooting. Jakil Jones, 32, Kentrell Price, 25, Kenwin Dandridge, 27, Jamal Vaughn, 24, and Antoine Jackson, 28, were taken into custody. These men face serious charges, including two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and engaging in criminal street gang activity. While these arrests marked a major step forward, the investigation clarified that the person directly responsible for shooting Dunn was still being sought.
In addition to the five arrests, authorities identified three other men who are still wanted in connection to the two attempted murders. Gerrell Skinner, 30, Jardell Pleasant, 32, and Taj Levy, 27, are considered armed and dangerous, and law enforcement has appealed to the public for any information that could lead to their apprehension. The ongoing investigation underscores a commitment from officials to bring all individuals involved in the incident to justice.
