On the evening of Friday, October 27, 2023, amidst the backdrop of a high school football game in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, a violent altercation cut short the life of 21-year-old Tyree Parker. The shooting erupted near the Donaldsonville High School stadium, at the corner of Clay and Lee streets, around 8:30 p.m., causing chaos and suspending the ongoing game as attendees were cleared from the area for their safety.

responded quickly to the sound of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The officers immediately began administering lifesaving measures until emergency medical services could take over. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, but Tyree Parker, a resident of Donaldsonville, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim was left in critical condition, battling life-threatening injuries.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement witnessed a man fleeing the scene who they identified as the suspected shooter. This individual was promptly apprehended and identified as 21-year-old Malik Fowler of Gonzales. According to investigators, Fowler was an acquaintance of the victims. An argument between them escalated, leading Fowler to fire multiple shots, fatally wounding Parker and critically injuring the other man.
Following his arrest, Malik Fowler was booked on several charges, including second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, simple criminal damage to property, and disturbing the peace. In a later development, Fowler pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter. As a result of his plea, he faces a potential sentence of up to 40 years in state prison. The sentencing has been deferred to a later date.
