In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Lafayette, Louisiana, the sound of gunfire shattered the calm at an apartment complex on Robley Drive. When the echo of the shots faded, 18-year-old Toren Martin was left with multiple gunshot wounds. The Lafayette Police Department received a 911 call just before midnight on June 25, 2024, reporting the shooting.
Upon their arrival at the scene in the 1000 block of Robley Drive, officers discovered the injured Toren Martin. They immediately began to provide life-saving medical aid until he could be transported to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, Toren Martin succumbed to his injuries and passed away on June 26, 2024.
The investigation into the shooting led police to a vehicle that was possibly involved. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in Vermilion Parish near Kaplan. Three individuals were apprehended and arrested on charges unrelated to the shooting; it was later discovered that they were friends of the victim.
Further investigation into the homicide led the Lafayette Police Department to identify a suspect. Kayden Wilson, 19, of Ville Platte, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Toren Martin.
