On July 23, 2024, a double homicide was reported just outside Amite City, Louisiana, involving Christopher Hegwood, 29, and his girlfriend, Chrissy Jenkins, also in her late 20s. The incident occurred in the 600 block of West MLK Street, where first responders found the couple dead after receiving a 911 call around 5:00 a.m. Jenkins had made the call, reporting that she had been shot, but by the time law enforcement arrived, both she and Hegwood were deceased.
