In the quiet town of Amite, Louisiana, a domestic dispute on March 19, 2014, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 62-year-old Alfred Hill. The male victim was fatally shot, leading to a prolonged standoff with law enforcement.
The sole suspect in the shooting was his own sister, 63-year-old Daryl Lynn Hill. After allegedly shooting her brother, she barricaded herself inside their home.
Following negotiations, Daryl Lynn Hill eventually surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody.
Initially, she was charged with manslaughter in connection with Alfred Hill's death. However, the case took a significant turn when a grand jury later indicted her on the more severe charge of second-degree murder.
The investigation into the shooting uncovered a startling and unexpected element at the crime scene. Authorities discovered a substantial amount of counterfeit currency inside the residence where the shooting occurred. Initially, police found approximately $231,000 in fake bills on the day of the incident. A subsequent search by Secret Service agents yielded an additional $190,000 in counterfeit money, along with four printers, bringing the total to $421,000. Despite this discovery, investigators stated that they did not believe the counterfeit money was the motive for the fatal shooting. The investigation into the counterfeit operation was ongoing.
