Javonte 'Buck' Anthony, an 18-year-old Black male, was inside a residence on Washington Street when violence shattered the peace. Just after 8:15 p.m., the sound of gunshots rang out, and when authorities arrived, they found Anthony suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, his injuries proved to be fatal. The young man, who was on the cusp of his 19th birthday, was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. In the immediate aftermath, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle speeding away from the scene, a crucial clue in the burgeoning homicide investigation.
The St. Martinville Police Department, with assistance from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, launched a thorough investigation into Anthony's death.
