Javeuin Williams, a 20-year-old male, tragically lost his life on March 22, 2025, following a shooting in Cade, Louisiana. The incident occurred at the Cade Community Center in the 1600 block of Smede Highway, where a wedding reception was being held. Williams, who was a groomsman at the event, was one of three people shot after a verbal altercation broke out among several individuals at what was supposed to be a joyous celebration.
He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Remembered as the life of the party, Javeuin was a proud graduate of Breaux Bridge High School and a passionate basketball player. He was known for his ability to light up any room and bring laughter to those around him. His death has deeply impacted the close-knit community of St. Martin Parish, where his family has resided for generations.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement identified Michael Jordan Zachary Jr., 19, of Washington, Louisiana, as the primary suspect. Zachary allegedly fled the scene but was involved in a traffic accident shortly after at the intersection of Smede Highway and LA Highway 182. He was initially hospitalized for injuries sustained in the crash and upon his release was charged with possession of an unregistered or illegal weapon. Following Williams' death, Zachary's charges were upgraded to second-degree murder.
A second suspect, 18-year-old Lathan Jon Brown of St. Martinville, later turned himself in to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office in connection with the shooting. Brown has been charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
