In the heat of a Sunday afternoon in New Orleans on August 11, 2024, tragedy struck in the 10800 block of Chef Menteur Highway. Twenty-three-year-old Desean Leggett, a Black male, was shot multiple times in front of a discount market. The incident occurred around 1:33 p.m., and despite the quick response of emergency services, Leggett was pronounced dead at the scene. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was a result of gunshot-related injuries.
