On the warm evening of August 29, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the night on Glen Oaks Drive in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, leaving a community in mourning. Darryl Edebiri, a 31-year-old Black male, was standing outside with a group of people when the unthinkable happened. At approximately 10:05 p.m., an unknown vehicle approached the gathering, and without warning, an occupant opened fire on the group.
The sudden and senseless act of violence left Edebiri with multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services were quick to respond to the chaotic scene in the 4700 block of Glen Oaks Drive. Despite their efforts and being rushed to a nearby hospital, the injuries Edebiri sustained proved to be fatal. He was pronounced deceased, becoming another victim of the gun violence that plagued the city that day. His death was one of three separate fatal shootings that occurred in Baton Rouge within a span of just a few hours, marking a particularly violent night for the city.
The Baton Rouge Police Department's Homicide Division is actively investigating the shooting. At this time, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the murder of Darryl Edebiri. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to search for leads and appeal to the public for any information that might bring those responsible to justice.
