On October 10, 2024, Sy'Reese Ja'Lia Washington, an 18-year-old African American female from Gonzales, Louisiana, lost her life to gun violence. Born on January 23, 2006, in Houma, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Marie Washington and Nolan Zenon. Sy'Reese was affectionately known by the nickname “Shy” and was recognized for her vibrant personality. She attended St. James High School and was remembered by friends and family for her sense of humor and warmth.
