Mildred Vessel, a 53-year-old woman from Gonzales, Louisiana, tragically lost her life on March 10, 1999. She was killed by her estranged son-in-law, Shon Miller, who also took the lives of his wife, Carla Vessel Miller, 25, and their 2-year-old son, Shon Jr., before going on a shooting spree at the New St. John Fellowship Baptist Church. Mildred Vessel was shot at her home before Miller proceeded to the church, where he killed three more people and wounded four others.
