On a tragic evening in Gonzales, Louisiana, the life of 53-year-old Mildred Vessel was cut short in a devastating sequence of events that stunned the small community. On March 10, 1999, Vessel was shot and killed by her son-in-law, Shon D. Miller Sr., in her van just as she returned to her home.
