Malcolm Solomon, 22, was a Black man from New Orleans who died on October 26, 2024, after a late-night shooting in the Algiers area.
Just before 11:20 p.m., officers were called to the 3200 block of General De Gaulle Drive. When they arrived, they found Solomon inside a vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. New Orleans EMS pronounced him dead at the scene, and investigators began working the area for evidence and leads as they tried to piece together what happened in the
moments before the shots were fired.
In the early aftermath, police indicated they were still gathering information to identify a possible suspect and determine a motive. Public reporting at the time did not describe an arrest, name a suspect, or outline specific circumstances—only that the investigation was ongoing and that further details had not yet been released.
Away from the crime-scene details, Solomon’s obituary remembered him as a New Orleans native who attended McDonogh 35 and Landry/Walker High School and worked as a forklift driver. He was also described as a loving father to Malcolm Solomon Jr., and his family shared the kind of personal roll call that turns a headline into a life: parents, siblings, grandparents, and a wide circle of relatives and friends left to absorb the sudden loss.
Officially documented law-enforcement information connected to Solomon in the public record also includes an earlier New Orleans Police Department release from 2022 stating that detectives had obtained an arrest warrant for a person with his name in an armed-robbery investigation and asked the public for help locating him at that time; that notice is separate from the 2024 homicide reporting and does not, by itself, explain the circumstances of his death.
