Lars Stiaes, aged 22, was killed on February 2, 2011, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was shot while trying to intervene in an armed robbery. Lars, a former serviceman who had been honorably discharged after an injury sustained in Afghanistan, had returned to civilian life and was enrolled as a student at the University of New Orleans.
