On the evening of November 16, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 27-year-old Johnathon James, a male, was fatally shot at The Meadows at Nicholson apartment complex. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the scene around 8:25 p.m., where they discovered James's body in a third-floor hallway.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to review surveillance footage from the apartment complex.
The recordings revealed a male suspect, armed with what appeared to be an AR-15 style rifle, present on the property for more than an hour, seemingly in search of James. The footage captured the moment the armed individual ambushed James. After a brief and calm conversation between the two, the suspect opened fire. After James had fallen to the ground, the gunman proceeded to shoot him several more times before fleeing the location.
More than a month later, on December 20, 2024, an arrest was made in connection with the homicide. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office took 21-year-old Joseph Joyeaux Jr. into custody. He was subsequently booked on a charge of second-degree murder for the death of Johnathon James.
