On a Monday morning in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of 24-year-old Chea’von Moore, a male, came to a violent end. The shooting occurred on April 10, 2023, around 11:30 a.m. outside a building of the Jefferson Community and Technical College, near the intersection of South 8th and West Chestnut streets. Moore was not a student at the college but was on the technical campus participating in a program hosted by Goodwill Industries.
He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene in what was later ruled a homicide. A woman who was with him was also wounded in the attack.
Witnesses reported that the individuals responsible for the shooting were initially on foot. After the shots were fired, they fled the scene, escaping in a vehicle. The incident took place on the same day as another prominent shooting at the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville, but law enforcement officials confirmed the two events were not connected. In the immediate aftermath, police began an investigation, working to gather surveillance footage from the school and surrounding areas to identify those involved. For months, the suspects remained at large, and no arrests were announced.
The investigation eventually led to a breakthrough. In August 2023, a Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted a man named Chrishawn Philpot in connection with the fatal shooting. Philpot was charged with complicity to murder, assault, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Authorities had stated they believed at least two suspects were involved in the shooting, though Philpot was the only individual reported to be facing charges. At the time of his death, Moore had recently been released on parole in March 2023. He had been serving a sentence for a 2016 second-degree manslaughter conviction stemming from a 2015 incident when he was a juvenile.
