On April 18, 2023, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Louisville Metro Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of North 25th Street in the Portland neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Samantha Thompson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was promptly transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
