In a quiet Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, the lives of a young family were tragically cut short in January 2018. Catherine Miles, a 24-year-old female, was found shot to death in her home on Venango Drive. Alongside her were her husband, 27-year-old Mike Miles, and his sister, 39-year-old Geneva G. Miles, all victims of a triple homicide.
The couple's two young children, a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, were discovered physically unharmed in a separate, closed bedroom.
The grim discovery was made after relatives of Catherine became concerned when they were unable to contact her. Police believe the victims may have been deceased for at least a day before their bodies were found on January 12, 2018. Suspicion quickly fell upon Christopher Olivo, who was in a relationship with Geneva Miles and was the father of her 2-year-old daughter. Olivo and Geneva had recently moved from Florida to live with Mike and Catherine.
Following the killings, Olivo fled to Florida with his and Geneva's daughter. An impending AMBER Alert was averted when authorities discovered the Chevrolet Cruze Olivo was driving was equipped with OnStar. This technology allowed law enforcement to track his movements. Olivo was arrested the day after the victims were found by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Violent Crime Task Force. Before his capture, he had left his daughter with relatives in Florida. At the time of his arrest, Olivo was wearing a ballistic vest and had an AK-47 on the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Investigations revealed a troubled history, with witnesses telling police that Olivo had threatened to 'kill everyone in the house' prior to Christmas. A cousin of the Miles siblings indicated that Olivo seemed very angry with Geneva, and that Mike had attempted to de-escalate the situation before the shootings occurred. Despite the alleged threats, no protective orders had been filed against Olivo in Jefferson County. Charged with three counts of murder, kidnapping, and child abuse, Christopher Olivo was set to face trial in October 2024. Prosecutors have considered pursuing the death penalty in the case.
