In the winter of 2020, a vibrant life was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. Brittney Nicole Deihs, a 39-year-old female, was killed on December 23rd in the Portland neighborhood. A former employee of Breckinridge Memorial Hospital and a beloved member of the First Baptist Church where she had served as a youth director, Brittney was known for her love of travel and her devotion to her family, having recently become a grandmother.
On that December evening, officers responded
to a call in the area of Bank Street and North 22nd Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Brittney, who had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation that followed pointed to a single suspect.
In late January 2021, the Louisville Metro Police Department arrested 24-year-old David Kent Reinford in connection with the fatal shooting. Reinford was charged with murder. The case against him was built on the strength of surveillance footage and the testimony of multiple witnesses who positively identified him as the shooter. Court documents revealed that Reinford had gone to Brittney's home armed with a handgun and fired three shots at her while she stood in her doorway.
Ultimately, David Reinford pleaded guilty to one count of murder. As a result of his plea agreement, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison, bringing a close to the legal proceedings surrounding the untimely death of Brittney Nicole Deihs.
