In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Louisville's Russell neighborhood, the life of 58-year-old Kaynell Pate was tragically cut short. On September 10, 2023, police responded to a call of a shooting at the corner of 29th and Cedar Street around 9 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Pate, a male resident of Louisville, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case.
At this time, there are no known suspects and authorities have not released a motive for the shooting. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the anonymous police tip line.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 13, 1965, Kaynell Pate was the owner of Pate Construction, a business he loved. He was known as a problem solver, always willing to find solutions for people, whether in his professional life or for his family. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Bardstown. He is survived by his mother, his companion, and numerous siblings and other relatives. His family and friends are left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a man described as a pillar in his community.
