In the early morning hours of July 19, 2024, the life of 16-year-old C'aveyoun Robinson was tragically cut short in Lexington, Kentucky. Police responded to a call at approximately 4:56 a.m. at the Gatehouse apartment complex on Liberty Road, where they discovered the young male in a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, C'aveyoun Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to 36-year-old
Robert Constant as a suspect. A few days after the incident, law enforcement identified Constant and issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. For roughly two months, Constant remained at large. His eventual capture was the result of an anonymous tip submitted to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers, leading to his arrest on August 29.
Further details emerged during legal proceedings, suggesting the fatal encounter was linked to a stolen vehicle. Investigators found that Constant was searching for his Dodge Challenger, which had been reported stolen earlier that evening. He, along with another individual, located the stolen car at the apartment complex. According to a police detective's testimony, video evidence showed that Robinson was one of several individuals involved in the theft of the vehicle. Constant reportedly pulled Robinson from the stolen car and placed him in the backseat of the SUV he was in. While Constant claimed he acted in self-defense, firing into the stolen vehicle, the evidence presented by investigators suggested otherwise. After the shooting, Constant attempted to flee the scene as police arrived but was unsuccessful. His case was later sent to a grand jury.
