In the quiet community of Pikeville, Kentucky, a domestic disturbance call on Monday, October 14, 2024, escalated into a tragedy that ended the life of 75-year-old Paulette Louise Mullins. When Kentucky State Police troopers and investigators arrived at a residence on Old Wagner Station Road, they were met with a tense situation. Inside the home was Mullins's son, who began making threats towards the law enforcement officers, prompting the activation of the Kentucky State Police Special
Response Team.
After a standoff that lasted for several hours, negotiators were able to convince the man, identified as Alex Yuhas, to surrender. Upon entering the home, authorities made a grim discovery. They found the body of Paulette Mullins, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The Pike County Coroner's Office pronounced her deceased at the scene. An autopsy was later scheduled at the State Medical Examiner's Office to officially determine the cause of death.
The initial investigation pointed to a domestic altercation between Yuhas and his mother as the catalyst for the fatal shooting. Following his surrender, Alex Yuhas, 59, was arrested and taken into custody. He was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center and faced multiple charges, including Murder-Domestic Violence. In addition to the murder charge, Yuhas was also charged with terroristic threatening and third-degree assault on an officer, the latter charge stemming from an incident where he allegedly spit on an officer after his arrest.
