On March 15, 2023, at approximately 2:44 a.m., a fatal shooting occurred at the Embassy Suites Hotel located at 7900 NE 82nd Ave, near Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon. The victims identified in this incident were 24-year-old Teonjenique Elizabeth Lashay Hudson Howard, also known as 'TiTi,' and 19-year-old Adarian Daeshawn Granville.
The shooting took place during a birthday party for Hudson, where an altercation escalated into gunfire involving multiple individuals
inside the hotel room. Hudson and Granville both succumbed to their injuries, while two others, including a security guard, were injured and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the shooting was conducted by the East County Major Crimes Team, which includes the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, the Port of Portland Police Department, the Gresham Police Department, the Multnomah County Sheriff's office, and the Oregon State Police. The team sought information from the public and encouraged anyone with knowledge about the shooting to contact the Port of Portland Police through their tip line.
The perpetrator of the shooting was identified as Raman Lawrence, 33, who was found guilty in June 2023 on charges of murder in the first degree with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm. Witnesses identified Lawrence as the individual who fired the fatal shot that killed Hudson. On September 3, 2024, Lawrence was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 30 years.
The incident highlighted concerns about the security measures at the hotel, with questions raised about whether the property owner or manager could have taken steps to prevent the shooting. The families of the victims were advised on potential legal actions they could take regarding negligent security claims.
