In the spring of 2023, a violent encounter in Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood tragically cut short the life of 23-year-old Reneil Miller, a Black/African American male. On the night of April 22nd, the Boston Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on Dedham Street. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered 21-year-old Joshua Marshall inside a car, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly after the discovery on Dedham Street, a second victim connected to the incident emerged. Reneil Miller, also suffering from a gunshot wound, had managed to make his way to Milton Hospital. Despite the efforts of the hospital staff, Miller succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Investigators quickly linked the two shootings, believing them to be part of the same incident.
In the days following the double homicide, the Boston Police Department identified the two victims and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. However, initial reports indicated that there were no immediate leads on a suspect or suspects in the shootings.
