On the night of April 22, 2023, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Boston neighborhood, leaving two young men dead. One of the victims was 21-year-old Joshua Marshall, a Black male from Stoughton. Police responded to a report of a shooting in the Hyde Park area shortly after 9:30 p.m. and discovered Marshall inside a car on Dedham Street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As investigators began to piece together the events of that evening, they learned of a second victim who had arrived at Milton Hospital with a gunshot wound. This man, identified as 23-year-old Reneil Miller of Hyde Park, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Authorities have stated that they believe the two shootings are connected, though the exact nature of their relationship and the circumstances leading to the violence remain under investigation.
A resident of the street where Marshall was found described a grim scene to reporters, stating that she saw a body hanging out of the driver's seat of a car. The Boston Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the double homicide. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case is listed as an unsolved homicide by the Boston Police Department. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
