On a warm evening on July 3, 2014, a Fourth of July barbecue was underway on Windsor Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Among those enjoying the festivities was 22-year-old David Kensley, a Black male. Shortly after 10 p.m., the celebration was shattered by the sound of gunshots. A black sedan was seen speeding away from the scene.
David Kensley had been struck in the head by one of several bullets fired from the vehicle in what police determined to be a targeted, drive-by shooting.
He was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he died from his injuries two days later. The incident left his family, friends, and neighbors in shock and mourning, who gathered for prayer in the days following the shooting.
In the years that have passed since Kensley's death, the case has remained unsolved. Despite the presence of numerous witnesses at the barbecue, law enforcement officials have expressed that a lack of cooperation from those closest to David has hindered the investigation. Authorities believe that some individuals who were present may have been afraid or unwilling to come forward with information at the time.
