On a tragic day in Boston, 37-year-old Richard Long, a Black male, lost his life in a violent sequence of events that unfolded on March 31, 2015. Responders were called to the 300 block of Harvard Street in Dorchester following a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered a fire blazing on the first floor of a residence.
After firefighters successfully extinguished the flames, they made a grim discovery inside the apartment.
Richard Long was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was quickly deemed a homicide, prompting an extensive investigation by the Boston Police Department.
For over a year, the case remained under active investigation. Then, in July of 2016, a breakthrough occurred. Boston Police arrested 30-year-old Victor Arrington in connection with Long's death. Arrington was subsequently charged with murder, arson, and armed assault with intent to murder. The arrest brought a measure of progress to a case that had deeply affected the community, marking a significant step toward answering the questions surrounding the violent death of Richard Long.
