Do you know who murdered Luis? On a cold January evening in 2014, the life of 21-year-old Luis Arroyo, a young Hispanic man from Roxbury, was tragically cut short. The date was Saturday, January 18th, when violence erupted at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Evelyn Street in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood. It was there, at approximately 8:13 p.m., that Arroyo was shot. Responding officers found him with a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Boston Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he died later that night.
The incident marked the fourth homicide in the city of Boston that year. In the days that followed, the Boston Police Department publicly identified Arroyo as the victim of the fatal shooting. The community was left to mourn the loss of the young man, whose family and friends gathered to lay him to rest. His funeral was held, and he was buried in St. Michael Cemetery in nearby Roslindale. He was survived by his parents, Angel Arroyo and Jocelyn Duran.
