On the first day of the new year, while many in Boston were still wrapped in the celebrations of 2024, a tragedy unfolded in the Dorchester neighborhood. A 24-year-old Black man named Nilton Fernandes lost his life in a fatal shooting. In the early morning hours of January 1, 2024, at approximately 5:28 AM, police responded to a call for a person shot at 34 High Street.
