In the summer of 2024, the life of 38-year-old Hispanic man Dexter Ortiz was tragically cut short on a warm July evening in Holyoke, Massachusetts. On the night of July 9th, the sound of gunfire pierced the air in the area of the 50 block of West Street, prompting an alert from the city's ShotSpotter system at approximately 11:22 p.m. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic and distressing sight.
