After trying to avoid a collision by beeping his horn, Baez made the fateful decision to get out of his car to confront the riders and question their actions. It was in that moment, in front of his horrified family, that one of the moped riders turned and fired a gun, shooting Baez in the chest. Boston police officers responded to a report of the shooting around 10:17 p.m. and found him suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
