On a Saturday evening in November 2013, a visit to family in Dorchester turned tragic for 21-year-old Andrew Mcgee, an African-American male. Just before 11 p.m. on November 16th, Mcgee and his 19-year-old cousin, Ron, were outside a home on Whitman Street when gunfire erupted. Both young men were struck by the hail of bullets.
Boston police officers from the Mattapan district responded to a shot spotter activation in the area. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mcgee and his cousin on the ground, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency services transported both victims to Boston Medical Center. While his cousin survived his injuries, Andrew Mcgee was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Boston Police Homicide Unit immediately began an active and ongoing investigation into the double shooting. Authorities urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in solving the case. In the wake of his death, Mcgee's family remembered him as a beloved son who was close to his mother, Della. She had striven to keep him away from the dangers of city life. To honor his memory, a memorial fund was established with the goal of creating a college scholarship in his name.
Despite the initial investigation and public pleas for information, no arrests have been made in the years following Andrew Mcgee's death. His case is listed among the unsolved homicides for 2013 by the Boston Police Department, and the identity of the person or persons responsible for his murder remains unknown.
